Theatrical Costuming Construction
Costume Construction Portfolio
Hands-on set construction projects showcasing practical costuming skills, problem-solving, and collaboration within theatrical productions, supporting costuming design through safe, functional, and performance-ready clothing.
Costume Carfts
Mask Making & Found Objects
Costume craft projects exploring fabric manipulation, surface design, and unconventional materials through experimental and process-driven techniques.
Shibori Batiking
This project explored Shibori, a Japanese fabric-dyeing technique using resist methods such as folding, wrapping, and binding to create patterned textiles. Batiking, an Indonesian wax-resist dyeing process, was incorporated to layer designs and textures. Together, these methods allowed for experimentation with color, pattern, and surface depth in fabric.
The mask-making project focused on expressing emotion through form and texture. Using cheesecloth, Elmer’s glue, felt lining, and sculptural techniques, I created a mask representing the emotion worry.
For the found objects project, I designed a hypothetical costume accessory inspired by an apple. Materials included a small flowerpot, plastic Easter eggshells, foam ornaments, Fosshape feathers, thread, and elastic to construct a wearable piece using everyday items.
Handmade Buckram Hat
These hats were constructed with buckram interiors, wired outer rims, fabric exteriors, interior linings, and brim linings. I created custom patterns for each hat and dyed the fabric for the top hat using batiking techniques learned earlier in the course.
